다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this article is to explain the historical consciousness that appeared in the character legend by investigating the historical characteristics of legends, targeting historical figures handed down in the Boryeong area.
The area this paper paid attention to is Boryeong. This is because the Boryeong area can identify the local historical perception and sentiment shown in the character legend by paying attention to the formation of legends until recently based on the historical movements of characters not mentioned in historical records.
In the Boryeong area, it is showing efforts to make the legend a reality, and the targets were King Gyeongsun and General Kim Seong-woo. King Gyeongsun and General Kim Seong-woo, who have been handed down in Boryeong, are characterized by the transmission of historical tracks of figures who are not mentioned in historical records. Nevertheless, the Boryeong area is an area where efforts to regain lost history stand out while trying to prove the historical facts of these characters. Accordingly, while reviewing based on historical records, the relationship with Boryeong was confirmed, and the process of historicalization of legend was examined.
As a result, in Boryeong area, it was confirmed that the characters who protected the country in the national crisis such as the Japanese Invasion of Korea, and the Japanese colonial period were symbolically handed down as legends like any other legends. Of course, it is handed down as a geographical legend based on one-sided facts rather than a legend with a narrative, so it has limitations in extracting the elements of heroization. But the status of the legend of a character is confirmed again due to the need for local demands at the moment of historical crisis. Therefore, it can be confirmed that the character legend forms local culture by its own specificity with the memory of local history.

이 글은 보령지역에서 전승되는 역사적 인물을 대상으로, 전설의 사료적 성격을 구명하면서 인물전설에 나타난 역사의식을 해명하는 데에 목적이 있다.
본고가 주목한 지역은 보령지역이다. 보령지역은 사료에서는 언급되지 않는 인물의 역사적 행보를 토대로 최근까지도 전설이 형성되는 것에 주목하여 인물전설에 나타난 지역적 역사의식을 확인하고자 하였다. 특히 보령지역에서는 전설을 역사화하고자 하는 노력을 보이고 있는데, 그 대상은 경순왕과 김성우 장군이다. 보령지역에서 전승되고 있는 경순왕과 김성우 장군은 사료에는 언급이 없는 인물의 역사적 행적이 전승되고 있는 특징이 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 보령 지역에서는 이러한 인물의 역사적 사실을 고증하고자 노력하면서 잃어버린 역사를 되찾고자 하는 노력이 돋보이는 지역이라 할 수 있다. 이에 역사 기록을 바탕으로 검토하면서 보령과의 지연관계를 확인하고, 전설의 역사화 과정을 살피었다.
그 결과 여느 인물전설과 마찬가지로 민족적 위기의 상황에서 시대적 요구에 의해 역사적 인물이 부활되는데, 보령지역 또한 고려시대부터 시작된 극심한 왜구의 침략과 임진왜란, 그리고 일제 강점기라는 민족적인 위기의 상황에서 백성과 나라를 지켰던 인물이 전설로 전승되면서 영웅적 인물로 부활되는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 물론 서사를 지닌 전설이라기 보다는 일면적인 사실을 근거로 하는 지명전설로 전승되고 있어 특정 요소를 추출하는 데에 한계를 지니지만 역사적인 위기의 순간에 지역적으로 나타나는 시대적 요구의 필요에 의해 재현되는 인물전설의 위상을 다시금 확인하게 된다. 때문에 인물전설은 지역적 역사의 기억과 함께하면서 그만의 특수성으로 지역문화를 형성하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.
