It has been a long time since the mode of cloth-ornamentation traditional to Korea first came to integrate within itself the Chinese style. This dual system in cloth-ornamentation became more prevailing and outstanding during the Koryo dynasty than during any of the previous dynasties.
During the earlier period of the Koryo dynasty, the predominant mode was that of Silla which was crucially influenced by T'ang's. in due course of time, the ways of the Five dynasties and the Sung dynasty were brought into the Koryo society.
Still later, those clothes and ornamentations conferred to the courtiers of the Koryo kingdom by Khitan and Liao, had also left some of their traces among the population of the Koryo dynasty. However, even those modes of the conquerors were a variety of T'ang's.
Coming into the era of the Yuan dynasty's political domination, the Mongolese style worked a substantial influence upon our cloth-ornamentation, yet the hierarchical system of showing the status in the palace or court by way of clothes and ornamentations, remained predominantly the same as those practiced in the Sung dynasty.
After the fall of Yuan and Ming in China, the court costumes of the Ming dynasty were adopted by the Koryo dynasty and lasted up to 500 years during the Yi dynasty, which followed the Koryo dynasty.
