기행은 일이나 여행을 목적으로, 자기가 살고 있는 곳을 떠나 객지를 다니면서 보고, 듣고, 느끼고, 겪은 것을 기록으로 남기는 것이다. 예로부터 창작행위의 저변에, 문인으로서 갖추어야 할 기상을 높이기 위해서 여행은 필수불가결한 요소였다.
「서정시」는 이언적과 같은 도학자들의 시에서는 보기 드문 장편 기행시로 그가 과거(科擧)에 응시하기 위해 한양으로 갈 때인, 24세 때 작품이다. 두보의 시 「북정」을 모범으로 해서 지어진 것으로 5언으로 해서 135운, 270구, 글자 수 1350자로 구성된 장편이다. 신라의 옛 도읍지 경주에서 한양까지의 여정을 통해 곳곳의 풍속과 지리, 경관 등에 대한 감회를 섬세하고도 진솔하게, 그리고 있어 과거 길의 젊은 선비로서의 번뜩이는 기개가 넘쳐흐르고 있다. 과거라는 중압감에도 불구하고 묘사나 구성에 있어 번잡스럽지 않고 간결하게 과감한 생략법을 사용하여 과거보러 한양까지 가는 도중의 여정의 감회를 평면적 서술 형태로 읊은 독특한 작품이다. 이언적의 중·후기 시가 보여 주는 정제 된 도학적 시풍이 어느 정도 배제되었음을 알 수 있고 과장이나 허구적인 것이 없는 사실적 시풍을 띠고 있어 그의 초기 시를 이해할 수 있는 작품이다. 길마다 만나는 백성의 삶과 고뇌를 깊이 이해하였고 각 지방의 풍물과 인심 그리고 지나는 곳의 승경을 읊고 있어 인문 지리적, 역사적, 문학적 측면이 어우러진 기행시의 여러 요소를 잘 갖춘 작품이라 할 수 있다. 그리고 기행시나 산수유기와 같은 기행 문학에 대한 본격적 연구는 옛 선인들의 자연이나 국토에 대한 이해, 현대에 대비한 인문지리 개념의 확대, 유교· 불교· 도교를 포함하는 사상사적 변화의 추이 등 여러 분야의 이해에 이바지 하리라고 본다.

Travel is for the purpose of work or travel, to write down what you saw, heard, felt, and experienced while away from where you lived. Since ancient times, travel has become an essential element to enhance the spirit of being a writer on the basis of creative activity.
Soejung poetry is a feature that is rare in urban scholars' poetry, such as Lee Eun-Jeok's. It is written when he was 24 years old and he went to Hanyang to apply in the past. It influences a feature of Doubo's poem, titled Bukjeong, which is composed of 135, 270, and 1350 letters in five languages. He can be said to us he is a brilliant scholar of the past because despite of the pressures in the past, he describes well about the customs, geography, and scenery of the past with detail and sincerity throughout his journey from Gyeongju to Hanyang.
It is a unique narrative form that describes the emotion of one's journey to Hanyang as a view of the past, using bold omission methods that is not complicated in description or organization. It can be seen that the refined urban visual style of poetry, as shown in the latter phase of Lee Eun-Jeok's poems. It was somehow excluded like exaggerated or fictional styles in the early style of poetry but instead it is included the fact. I deeply understand the lives and sufferings of the people whom we meet on every street, and can recite local customs, so I can enjoy many elements of traveling with various aspects of human geography, history, and literature.
And a serious study of traveling literature, such as sanctuary or cross culture, is an understanding of the nature or land of the ancients, expansion of the concept of human geography against the modern age, and changes in Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism.
