      The personal poetics is Sop'o's consciousness and it is caused by "poetry traces emotions"［Yuan-ch'ing-shuo: 緣情說］. The book of Odes ［ Shih- ching: 詩經］expressed the emothions［ch'ing: 情］. The emotions are di- fferent everyboby...

      The personal poetics is Sop'o's consciousness and it is caused by "poetry
      traces emotions"［Yuan-ch'ing-shuo: 緣情說］. The book of Odes ［ Shih-
      ching: 詩經］expressed the emothions［ch'ing: 情］. The emotions are di-
      fferent everyboby. Therefore, it decline at personal view. The personal
      poetics arise from that the vital force ［Chi: 氣］was interpretted by
      Kuan Tzu［管子］and Huai-nan Tzu［進南子］. It passed by personality
      of Wang Ch'ung［王充］and inheritted at Tsao Pi［曺丕］. Thereafter, It
      passed by Liu Hsieh［劉협］,Lu Chi［陸機］, Chung Hung［鐘嶸］, Yuan
      Tsung-tao［袁宗道］, Yuan Hung-tao［袁宏道］, Chin Sheng-t'an［金聖嘆］
      At last, Yuan Mei［袁枚］completed the personal poetics. In Kprea, it
      arise from Lee Kju-bo［李奎報］Passing by Sung Hyun［成俔］, So Ko-
      jong［徐居正］, Who Kjun［許筠］. It arrived at Sopo［西浦］.
      Next, it put in order that's contents.
      1. Poetry expresses in words the intent of the mind［Shih Yen Chih: 詩言志］.
      2. Poetry is where the intent of the mind goes. Lying in the mind, it is "intent; when uttered in words, it is "poetry".
      3. Poetry express his personal nature. Unless it is what flows from his bosom, he will not write it down.
      4. Poetry is only a sudden cry from one's mind: everyone, even a woman or a child, has it, in the morning or at mid-night.
      5. The Purpose of writing poetry is to express one's personality. In writhing poetry, if one has a personality, one will inevitably have a visage. Accordingly, the personal poetics have a concepts of lower-rank that are the emotional poetics［Yuan Ch'ing Shuo:緣情說］, and the natural
      poetics［Hsing Ling Shuo:性靈說］, the vital poetics［Chu Ch'i Shuo:主
      氣說］, the poetics in profound secrets of nature［T'ien Chi Shuo: 天機說］, etc.
      The emotional poetics is the parent of the personal poetics. Beginning
      with the Mao-Shih［毛詩］, it was completed by Lu Chi［陸機］. Lu Chi
      said that poetry traces emotions and should be exquisite as fine patterned
      silk. After that, it developed to the natural poetics［Hsing Ling Shuo: 性
      靈說］and it established the personal poetics. In Korea, Choi Ja［崔滋］
      presented them and Pak Se-dang［朴世堂］took shape to them. Pak Se-
      dang said that Shih Ching expressed the emotions, and that was to true
      human emotion.
      Sop'o received to the emotinal poetics and wrote poetry by them. His
      the emotional poetics are:
      1. Shih Ching was recited by one's nature and emotion.
      2. Poetry is to express one's personality.
      3. Poetry must not a limit at the emotion.
      Some what, Sop'o's poetry wrote by the emotional poetics, because he
      have mostly poems of farewell and of exile, of death, of woman. And
      because that expressed to true human emotion, Sop'omanpil［西浦漫筆］
      was boycotted by one's lifetime.
