Nowadays, the cultural level of a country becomes a yardstick of evaluating its competitiveness and resources. In the cultural and industrialized society of 21st Century, it is assumed to be hard to improve a value of a product only with the mere modern functionality and technologies, so that we need to enlarge a value of a product by improving aesthetic, functional, economic values on the basis of the national unique cultural backgrounds and structures.
Cultural products as technology intensive ones are the results of the national cultural, technology, creativeness. we need to differenciate cultural products from the others and apply unique culture including symbolic functionality to them.
Koryo people accepted Buddhism of Silla and bloomed the arestocratic cultural in harmony and precision along with simple regional cultural. Art in koryo is characterised by koryo celadon, Buddhist paintings, and metal craft as the cristocratic culture and unbalanced Buddhist images, simple earthenwares and wall paintings in tombs as regional one.
Considering these general conditions, I would like to suggest an improved scheme introducing products necessary to everyday life by understanding the culture of koryo dynasty, the concept of cultural product, and the problems of existing industrial art products. In the extent, various practical metal products combining practicality and art such as oil lamp, stamp, red-ink pad, pill case, needle container are designed and manufactured. As for the material of these products, a part of metal and ceramic items from Koryo dynasty has been carefully selected, and then the size has been reduced and modified to fit for current usage.
