손처눌孫處訥(1553~1634)이 살던 시대는 조선에서 변화가 가장 큰 시기이다. 선조宣祖(재위: 1552~1608) 시대에 본격적으로 활동하였던 사림士林은 기존의 질서에 대해 문제를 제기하였고, 이를 토대로 하여 학문과 국가운영 전반에 도약이 있었다. 반대로 위험도 컸다. 거듭 외적이 침략하였고 사람들의 사고방식과 일상생활에 커다란 충격을 주었다.
본고는 경상도 사대부의 일상생활에서 조선 사회의 다단한 모습을 찾았다. 대상은 대구에 살았던 손처눌이다. 그는 이 시기 대구의 대표적인 사대부이다. 손처눌은 다양한 역할을 담당하였다. 국가의 백성이었고, 지역사회에서 논의를 주도하는 지식인이었으며, 아내와 자식들을 두고 있는 가족의 구성원이었다. 같은 시대를 살았던 많은 사람들 가운데 한 사람이었다. 그를 통해 17세기 전반 조선에서 국가와 지방민, 지역사회 지식인의 활동, 가족의 일상생활 등을 확인해 보았다. 그가 30여년 동안 일상을 기록한 일기는 중요한 자료가 된다.
이를 토대로 본고는 세 가지에 주목하였다. 첫째, 국가체제의 재건과 지방민의 일상이다. 둘째, 지역사회에서 사대부의 활동이다. 셋째, 가족의 일상생활이다. 손처눌을 통해 전란 이후 새롭게 구축된 국가와 사회, 가족질서의 실상을 확인한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Joseon went through the biggest changes during the lifetime of Son Cheo-nul (1553~1634). Sarims, who engaged in full-blown activities during the reign of King Seonjo (1552~1608), raised issues with the old national order and brought an overall leap to studies and national management. This period was also a time of risks. Foreign invasions continued on and sent huge shock waves to the thinking and daily lives of the people. There were many changes.
This study found busy aspects of Joseon society in the daily life of nobility in Gyeongsang Province with a focus on Son Cheo-nul who lived in Daegu. He was one of the representative noblemen of Daegu during those years and played various roles as one of its people, including an intellectual that led discussions among local noblemen, and a father married with children. He was one of the many individuals that lived during the same period and were in the same circumstances. By examining him, the study looked into the activities of the government, local people, local intellectuals, and the daily lives of families in Joseon during the former half of the 17<SUP>th</SUP> century. Son Cheo-nu’s journal that he kept to record his daily life for approximately 30 years provided valuable information.
The study focused on three aspects: the reconstruction of the national system and the daily lives of the local people, the activities of nobility in the community, and the daily lives of families. His life and records helped to examine the reality of the new national, social, and family order after the war.
