We present the study of the survival strategies of local elites due to political changes of the central government and the processes for maintaining their social positions. Especially, we have researched the migration to Eonyang of Young san Shin lineage and the processes to adapt themselves to local community. And in these aspects, we have also studied diverse aspects of adaptation to local community against political changes of central government.
Young san Shin lineage immigrated to Eonyang in the middle of 15th century. After their immigration, they desired to adopt themselves as local community members by means of marriage with another local elites' lineage that had lived in Eonyang. They made the community w-here those who had the same family name lived centering around Hazamli(荷岑里) in the middle of 16th. Young san Shin lineage also took on active part in local community based on their economic power between 17th and 19th. As a result, the lineage the one of the principal lineages who controled local community. However, their lineage wasn't famous enough to be record on either Eonyang town chronical or "Mansungdaedongbo(萬姓大同譜)". In the beginning of 20th, the lineage was registered newly both Eonyang town chronical and the second volumn of "Mansungdaedongbo". These products result from their active political behaviors.
In addition to, a scholastic mantle and the school become in the latter end of Choson dynasty, local elites had to be affiliate with any school to secure their lineage's position safely. In these aspects, the province, Kyung sang do, was affected by "Young nam hak pa(嶺南學派)". The influence of "Young nam hak pa" was well brought out in Eonyang. Six lineages of leading eight lineages stood for Namin(南人) politically. On the contrary, Young san Shin lineage stood for Bukin(北人) celled "北權南辛" with Andong Kyeun(安東 權) lineage. But, at the same time, they acted as Namin in local community in connection with marring and the hall which is a lecture hall and a memorial hall for Confucianist serves to honor distinguished scholars and statesmen.
Most of all, it is the most important fact that after a rebellion led by Lee In jao(李麟佐) in 1728, and even thought the parties including Noron, Namin and Soron were opposed to one another sharply, Shin lineage altered their party, Namin into Noron. Although standing for Noron outside, they still associated with lineages stood for Namin in local community. Whenever there is the political changes of central government, they modified their party outwardly. It is quite different from the phenomenon which the feud between Noron and Namin in local community was on the increase under the circumstances that Noron party had extended influences, to the contrast Namin party had lost influences in the latter end of Choson dynasty. That is, local elites in the latter end revolted against authority, at the same time, they got the countermeasures to make a compromise with authority. As stated above, Young san Shin lineage had altered the party according to the political changes which contributed to the maintenance of their social position in local community.
