『頤齋亂藁』는 전북 고창 출신의 실학자 頤齋黃胤錫(1729~1791)이 쓴 일기자료이다. 18세기 연구 자료로서 『이재난고』는 다양한 분야에 걸쳐 중요성을 인정받고 있지만, 특히 과학사 연구에서 빼놓을 수 없는 자료이다. 조선후기 과학사상사의 차원에서 볼 때 『이재난고』의 내용 가운데 천문역산학과 수학 관련 자료는 일차적인 관심거리다. 왜냐하면 당시 많은 지식인들이 서양과학의 우수성을 數學과 實測의 차원에서 거론하고 있었고 이러한 영향 관계가 『이재난고』에 자세히 기록되어 있기 때문이다.
『이재난고』는 초서로 쓰여져 있어서 많은 연구자들이 활용을 하지 못하다가 2003년 한국학중앙연구원에서 정서본으로 완간되면서 조선후기 연구자료로 본격적으로 활용되었다. 그러나 방대한 양의 『이재난고』는 개인의 일상부터 다양한 자료가 혼재되어 있다. 연구자 한사람이 이를 전부 읽고 해석하면서 연구를 진행한다는 것은 매우 어려운 일이다. 때문에 전문 주석이 달려있는 번역서가 간행될 필요가 있다.
『이재난고』는 과학 관련 자료를 비롯하여 정치·경제·사회·문화·역사 등 다양한 분야의 내용들이 방대하기는 하나 순서나 체계없이 일기 속에 전사되거나 초록되어 있어서 어디까지가 원전을 필사한 것인지, 혹은 황윤석의 견해인지 판단하기가 쉽지 않다. 따라서 필사 자료의 대조를 통하여 원전과 저자의 견해가 구분되는 작업이 필요하다.
아울러 『이재난고』를 탈초하고 활자화하는 과정에서 오탈자 및 띄워쓰기가 잘못된 것이 있으므로 인용하는 과정에서 자칫 오류를 가져올 수도 있다. 따라서 『이재난고』의 분류별 역주본 사업의 시급한 과제는 먼저 오탈자를 바로 잡는 교정과 함께 주제별 혹은 문집 체재에 따른 새로운 ‘디지털 역주본 이재난고’을 발간해 보는 것도 좋을 듯싶다. 향후 문집과 일기자료의 비교 검토를 통해 『이재난고』의 오자 교정과 번역, 주석 작업이 이루어진다면, 조선시대 문화콘텐츠 자료로서 『이재난고』의 활용도는 더욱 높아질 것이다.

『頤齋亂藁』 is a diary that was written by Hwang Yun-seok(黃胤錫, 1729~1791), a scholar of practical learing from Gochang, North Jeolla Province. As an 18th-century study, 『頤齋亂藁』 is recognized for its importance across a wide range of fields, but it is especially indispensable in scientific history research. Among the contents of 『頤齋亂藁』 in terms of scientific history in the late Joseon Dynasty, data on astronomy, epidemiology and mathematics are of primary interest. This is because at that time many intellectuals were referring to the excellence of Western science in terms of mathematics and actual measurement, and this influence relationship was recorded in detail in 『頤齋亂藁』.
『頤齋亂藁』 is such a vast amount of diary that it contains a wide range of data from the daily life of the individual. Therefore, it is difficult for each researcher to read and interpret all of them. Thus, in addition to translation, the notes are classified into various fields from the records of 『頤齋亂藁』 and the resulting notes and translations are deemed necessary.
『頤齋亂藁』 containsvarious fields, including political, economic, social, cultural and historical materials, without order or structure. It is not easy to determine how far it is from the original data or the author's view. Therefore, it is necessary to distinguish between the views of the original text and the author through the contrast of the manuscript data. There are some misprints and omissions in the process of making cursive into correct script and typesetting 『頤齋亂藁』 which may lead to errors in the cited process. Therefore, the urgent task of the 『頤齋亂藁』 project is to correct the misalignment first and to publish a new "Digital Translation and Annotation Publication of 『頤齋亂藁』" according to the topic or collection system. Henceforth, translations and annotations of 『頤齋亂藁』are carried out through a comparative review of the literature and diary materials in the future, the utilization of 『頤齋亂藁』 as a cultural content material of the Joseon Dynasty will be further enhanced.
