본 연구는 고대부터 오늘날 까지 형성된 ‘화조화(花鳥畵)’의 다양한 변화 속에서 화조화에 나타난 전통색을 미술교육에 색채수업의 유용(有用)한 방법으로 제안하였다. 특히 조선시대에 화조화는 유교적인 사상과 실학사상을 배경으로 다양한 변화를 이루었다. 기존의 수묵 위주의 제한된 회화에서 수묵과 채색의 혼용으로 전통색이 발현된 화조화의 성장으로 이어졌다.
또한 조선시대의 화조화에서 소재와 색채는 상징과 염원을 가지고 있다. 전통색은 오늘날의 물리적 색채와는 다른 관념적인 의미의 전통색이다. 따라서 전통색을 현대적으로 시각화 시켜 전통회화의 색채지도를 구체적으로 구안하여 적용하는 연구의 내용이다.
조선시대의 화조화가 성립된 기원과 시대적 배경, 동아시아의 화조화의 변천과정, 고대부터 내려온 색채발전을 알아보고, 조선시대 화조화의 종류인 화조, 화훼, 영모, 초충의 작품을 통해 전통색의 필요성을 알아보았다.
또한 중학교 미술교과서에 나타난 화조화의 예시작품에 쓰임새 및 표현활용에 대하여 분석하였고, 중학교 전통색채에 대한 학생들의 인식조사를 실행하였고, 결과물을 통해 학습자들의 전통색에 대한 흥미와 화조화에 쓰인 소재의 만족도를 조사 분석하였다.
본 연구에서는 조선시대 화조화에 나타난 색채 개념의 인지를 학습자의 흥미를 고려하여, 색의 대비를 통한 전통색의 심미성 추구하였다. 화조화 특유의 소재 상징성을 학생의 삶에 비유하여 학습내용과 학습자 삶의 연계성을 꾀하였다. 특히 화조화의 소재의 상징성과 색채는 오늘날 시각으로 창출할 수 있어 창의성을 높이는 데 교육적 가치가 있다. 즉 화조화 작품에 나타난 소재의 의미, 전통색채, 작가의 의미 전달을 인지하여 미적 통찰력과 표현력을 길러 교양인의 소양을 기른다.
따라서 화조화의 전통색채는 관념적이므로 전통색에 의미를 다른 나라에 알리기 위해 세계적으로 통용되는 색채기호를 이용해 자신들의 고유한 문화를 유지할 수 있다. 또한 학습자가 전통색채를 통해 문화 콘텍츠를 개발하는 등 새로운 아이디어를 창출 할 수 있는 밑거름이 된다.
전통회화인 화조화에 나타난 색채는 학습자에게 전통색은 관념적 이지만 현대적인 시각에서 색으로 표현하여, 중학교 수업에서 전통회화의 접근을 통해 전통문화를 이해하고 계승하며, 궁극적으로 학습자들에게 미적 전통의 뿌리를 찾고, 전통 속의 나를 인정하여 민족 자긍심을 되찾는 기회가 될 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This research suggests traditional colors of hwajo-wha(flower and bird), which has appeared in various changes from ancient times until today, as very useful method for fine art education. Especially in Chosun dynasty, hwajo-wha had great changes based on Confucian and Practical ideas. Before this time, people only use ink-and-wash techniques but it linked to development of hwajo-wha, which mingles ink-and –wash with colors.
The topics and colors of Chosun Dynastic hwajo-wha have own symbols and wishes. Traditional colors are physically not the same as colors of the present time, but ideal.
So this study is about concrete planning of visualization of traditional colors through modern view to plan traditional paintings’ color palette to adapt.
I researched the origins of hwajo-wha in Chosun Dynasty and historical background, East Asian hwajo-wha’s development and changes, color development from ancient pieces. It also includes necessity of traditional colors through 4 kinds of hwajo-wha works, which are hwajo, hwahwe(flowers), youngmo(animals), chochoong(insects).
I analyzed uses and applications of the hwajo-wha illustrations in severl middle school fine art textbooks. I also took the survey of recognitions of traditional colors to middle school students and analyzed learners’ interests in traditional colors and level of satisfaction of hwajo-wha’s contents through the survey results.
In this study, I considered learners’ interest in explaining meanings of traditional colors in hwajo-wha and pursued the traditional beauty through color contrast. I also tried to connect learning contents to learners by comparing special symbolism to hwajo-wha into their real life.
The symbolism of the contents and colors of hwajo-wha is highly educational today because it improves creativity by visually produced. So, when students study the meanings of objects in hwajo-wha and colors, painters’ intention, they can cultivate to train insight of beauty and expressiveness as a cultured person.
Hwajo-wha’s traditional colors are ideal so we should use global color code and keep our own culture. They also can be the foundation for new ideas. Learners can create culture contents using traditional color, for example.
The colors from the traditional drawing like hwajo-wha, are ideal. However, we should express it from visual art to real color with modernized viewpoint. An approach to traditional paintings in middle school art class would help us to understand and succeed. With these, the learners could find out the origins of traditional beauty and admit that they are part of traditional culture. Eventually they would get an opportunity to get the national pride back.
