The Wolji Ship is known as a ship made of three members. but it was confirmed that one more member was assembled at the time of discovery. In addition, considering the holes and grooves remaining in the hull, it is estimated that there were more separate structures on the bow.
The Yeongheungdo Shipwreck has a more advanced structure than The Wolji Ship and it was newly confirmed that herbaceous plant materials were used to tie up the members. The upper and lower penetration holes are drilled in the upper member, the left and right penetration holes are drilled in the lower member, and the two holes are bound together with flexible herbaceous plant material. The herbaceous plant materials remaining in the connecting hole were identified as Poaceae Oryza.
Although Wolji Ship and Yeongheungdo Shipwreck differ in their use and size, the basic principles of manufacturing methods are judged to be the same, such as the fact that a long wooden nail connecting the bottom plate is exposed to the outside. Wolji Ship is a form in which three members are connected at once around the central bottom plate using two long wooden nails, and a separate member is added above it. In this way, the shipbuilding method of connecting three rows around the central bottom plate at once and adding members to the left and right is also confirmed in shipwrecks of the Goryeo Dynasty.
The Yeongheungdo Shipwreck has few remaining hulls and severe deterioration.
This makes it difficult to identify the substructure. However, the Yeongheungdo Shipwreck was likely built by the same shipbuilding method as the Wolji Ship and ships of the Goryeo Dynasty. In addition, two members of the “central bottom plate” of the Yeongheungdo Shipwreck are connected to the front and back, and the structure of the joint was the same as the joint used in the central bottom plate of the ship of the Goryeo Dynasty. From this, it is estimated that the "central bottom plate" is placed in the center of the hull in the Yeongheungdo Shipwreck, and the members are symmetrically placed on the left and right sides of the "central bottom plate".
Finally, Comparing the unified Silla ship with the ships of the Goryeo Dynasty, it can be seen that as the width of the bottom plate widened, changes occurred in the fixing method and material between the members. It is judged that this change is intended to more firmly fix the hull member.
