지리적인 위치가 일본 본토보다 부산과 가까운 대마도는 오랫동안 한일 양국문화가 중첩된 무대로 좋은 의미든 나쁜 의미든지 간에 한일 양국문화를 이어주는 교량적 역할을 하였다. 그러나 대마도는 원래 산악지대로 토지가 협소하고 척박하여 식량을 밖에서 구해야 생활을 유지하므로 고려 시대 말기부터 한반도로부터 쌀을 지원받았지만, 그 땅에 기근이 들 때는 해적이 한반도 도서 연안을 침범하여 약탈하므로 한반도에서는 군사를 일으켜 정벌하기도 하였다.
조선 시대에는 대마도로부터 해적 행위를 하지 않겠다는 서약을 받고, 경상도 관할로 편입하여 島主에게 관직을 하사하고 일정량의 식량을 지급하기도 하였다. 또 조선의 通信使가 대마도를 거쳐 에도(江戶)로 향할 때는 대마도민들이 극진하게 맞이하며 길 안내의 선두에 나서기도 하였다. 지금은 2019년 말 일본발 무역 규제조치 이후 일시적으로 왕래가 주춤하고 있지만, 1990년 이후에 줄곧 매년 수십만 명이 넘는 한국인 관광객이 대마도를 방문하였다. 그 관광객 중에서는 단연 부산 사람들이 가장 많았다.
현재 대마도는 지리적 · 심리적으로 부산에서 가장 가까운 우호의 섬으로 일본 관광객에게도 소원한 곳이라는 점을 고려한다면, 이는 매우 인상적인 현상이다. 그러므로 본 논문에서는 대마도의 역사적 소속 및 유래와 지형, 한반도와의 관계와 교류의 역사를 고찰하였다.

Thushima, whose geographical location, along with historical and cultural facts, is closer to Busan than the mainland of Japan, has long served as a bridge between Korea and Japan, which connects the culture of Korea and Japan, both in good and bad terms. However, Thushima was originally provided with rice from the Korean Peninsula during the late Goryeo Dynasty because the land was small and barren in the mountainous areas, but when the land was famine, pirates invaded and looted the coast of the Korean Peninsula, which led to a military crackdown on the Korean Peninsula.
During the Joseon Dynasty, he was given a pledge not to engage in piracy, and was incorporated into the jurisdiction of Gyeongsang-do to give a certain amount of food to Governor of Tsushima Island. In addition, when Joseon's mission to Edo via Thushima, Thushima residents were also at the forefront of the road guidance by treating the carrier with utmost care. Now, traffic is temporarily slowing down due to trade regulations and the Korona incident from Japan at the end of 2019, but since 1990, more than hundreds of thousands of Korean tourists have visited Thushima every year. Among the Korean tourists, Busan has the largest number of people. Therefore, in this paper, we would like to examine the historical affiliation and origin of Thushima and the history of its relations and exchanges with the Korean Peninsula.
