다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study, centered on <Wanwolhyemaengyeon(玩月會盟宴)>, was intended to elucidate the shape and historical significance of the 'river', a literary material that appears in Korean novels in the late Joseon Dynasty.
The shape of the river in <Wanwolhyemaengyeon> is largely divided into three areas: the parting and meeting space, the fantasy space, and the play space. As the parting and meeting space, the river has two sides: a negative space based on the image of death and severance, and a positive space for reunion and union in the end. As the fantasy space, the river is a medium, an entrance, or a main stage through which transcending death, thereby achieving the growth and success of the protagonists. The river as the play space is closely related to Seonyu(船遊; enjoy boating), a play culture enjoyed by the Sajok(士族) class in the Joseon Dynasty, and reflects the knowledge and direct and indirect experiences of the Sajok class of the time.
From the novel historical point of view, the shape of a river as the space of unity, fantasy, and play, and related narratives were first presented in the full-length novels of the 17th century, and were formalized while forming a certain structural framework in the novels such as <Wanwolhyemaengyeon> in the 18th century. It was also inherited from the novels of the 19th century. However, compared to <Wanwolhyemaengyeon>, the shape of the river and the way it is used in other works are fragmented or abbreviated. In other words, <Wanwolhyemaengyeon> established an important model for the use and shape of steel material in the Korean classic full-length novel history.
