이 논문에서는 1923년의 『新潮』 합평회와 1925년의 『조선문단』 합평회에서 제기되었으나 진지하게 검토되지 못했던 주제에 주목하여 한일 양국 문단에서 합평회라는 사건이 어떤 의미였는지, 어떤 효과를 발생시켰는지를 고찰하였다.
『신조』 합평회에서는 문예의 새로운 역할, 문예와 생활의 관계에 대한 질문이 합평회의 안팎에서 제기되었으나, 제대로 논의되지 못한 채정리되어 버렸다. 논자들은 훼손되지 않는 문예의 본질적 가치를 주장했지만, 이는 결국 극히 제한된 영역으로 문예를 한정시키는 결과를 가져왔다. 그리고 기교 위주의 비평이라는 외부의 비판에 직면하여 『조선 문단』 합평회에서는 기교란 무엇인지에 대한 논의가 이루어졌으나 그 근저에 무엇이 존재하는지는 합평회의 내부에서도, 외부에서도 질문되지 않았다. 기교로 통칭되는 문학적 장치를 통해 얻어지는 자연스럽고 실감나는 재현의 너머에 무엇이 존재하는지의 문제는 문학의 본질에 대한 질문과 직결되는 것이었으나, 이는 끝내 질문의 형태로 제출되지 못했다.
『신조』 합평회와 『조선문단』의 합평회는 출발부터 프롤레타리아문학이라는 바깥에 직면해 있었으며, 내외적으로 문학에 대한 본질적 질문에 봉착해 있었다. 그러나 『신조』와 『조선문단』의 합평회는 끝내 이 모멘텀을 흘려보냈다. 이러한 의미에서 1923년의 『신조』 합평회나 1925년의 『조선문단』 합평회는 그간의 문학의 개념을 공고히 하는 동시에, 한일 양국에서 이후의 주류 문단이 어떻게 흘러갈지를 보여주는 한 징후적 사건이었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The theme of this paper is to identify the meaning of questions raised in the Joint Review of “Sincho(新潮)” in 1923 and “Joseonmundan(조선문단)” in 1925, but not seriously considered. At the same time, the concern of this discussion is to consider what the event meant and what effect these had in the literary circles of both Korea and Japan.
The questions were raised about the new role of literature, the relationship between literature and life in and out of the Joint Review of “Sincho(新潮)”, but discussions on these subjects have ended poorly. the participants of the Joint Review argued that the essential values of literature were not undermined, but this argument made the concept of literature extremely narrow. Faced with criticism for focusing solely on literary technique, participants in the Joint Review of the “Joseonmundan(조선문단)” discussed what literary techniques is. However, it has not been properly asked internally or externally as to what is underlying the question of technique. The question of what follows a natural and realistic representation created by literary devices represented by techniques was directly related to the question of the nature of literature. However, this question was never submitted in the form of a question.
From the outset, these two faced an attack from proletarian literature, and were asked essential questions about literature internally and externally. However, both eventually missed this momentum. In this sense, both sides were an opportunity to solidify the accepted literary concept, and they were a symptomatic event that showed how the future mainstream literature would proceed in both Korea and Japan.
