국사교본은 진단학회가 미군정청 문교부의 요청으로 편찬한 한국사 교과서이다. 저자는 김상기와 이병도로, 고대사 부분은 김상기가 집필하였다. 해당 도서는 해방 후 첫 관인 한국사 교과용 도서라는 의미가 있고, 저자들이 당시의 주요 고대사 연구자들이라는 점에서 역사교육사나 사학사적으로 매우 중요한 위치에 있다. 국사교본의 한국고대사 부분은 이후에 나오는 임시 교육과정인 교수요목의 제정에도 영향을 끼친 것으로 파악된다.
국사교본은 한민족의 기원에 대해 민족 이동설의 입장에서 만주와 한반도로 이동해 온 것으로 서술하였다. 이것은 이후 말발굽형 동이 문화권설로 발전하게 된다. 고조선사는 전조선, 후조선, 위만조선으로 시기에 따라 3분하였고, 요서 지역까지 그 영향력이 미친 것으로 보았다. 그리고 신라의 삼국 통일기를 한국사의 중요한 분수령으로 파악하여 그 이전과 이후로 시대 구분하였다. 이러한 서술들은 오늘날 한국고대사의 기본 이해와는 일치하지 않는 부분이 많지만, 당시의 한국사 연구 상황을 고려한다면 가장 정제되고 심도 있는 내용이었음이 분명하다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Guksagyobon(國史敎本) was compiled by the Korean History Textbook by the Jindanhakwhae(震檀學會) at the request of the Education Ministry of the U.S. military government. The authors are Kim Sang-ki and Lee Byeong-do, and the ancient history section is written by Kim Sang-ki. The book is meant to be the first official after Korea’s liberation from Japan’s colonial rule. And The authors are very important historians in that they are one of the foremost researchers of ancient history. The authors are one of the most important researchers of ancient history, so that is also historically important. Guksagyobon’s Korean ancient history section is considered to have also influenced the establishment of teaching material, a temporary curriculum.
Guksagyobon is known as Manchuria and move into the Korean Peninsula in a position of national drift about the origin of the narrative. It later developed into a Horseshoe shaped Dong Yi culture circle theory. As for the history of Gojoseon, it was divided into Jeonjoseon, Hujoson, and WimanJoseon. And the Silla Nation unification period was identified as an important watershed of Korean history. These contents are not consistent with the basic understanding of ancient Korean history today. But Considering the history of Korean history at that time, it is clear that it was the most refined and profound contents.
